Following the 2010 earthquake many children in the small
community of La Reserve found themselves wandering the streets
because they had no schools left standing to attend. A group of
caring individuals got together and formed the Centre de
Formation Communautaire de la Reserve. They welcomed all
these children and started a temporary school under a hanger built
by Organisation Terre de Hommes. When the damaged schools in
Petion-Ville were once more functional and open, the parents of
approximately 100 children found it difficult to send them back, as
the commute was a long one, and they had no means to continue to
pay the school fees. their children receive a good education, as they
were unable to afford one elsewhere.
Besides a scholastic education, this center also provides trade
classes in carpentry and ironworks for the older youth in the area.
